Business community planning 'dialogue' for presidential candidates
Johnson Minja |
Minja who led the group in protest against the government’s
recently introduced Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) several months ago,
however was quick to affirm that they werenot behind any presidential
aspirants.
“All we want is for the candidates to candidly explain what they
can do to improve the business environment and to change lives of
ordinary Tanzanians” he said, adding that the date for the dialogue will
announced later.
Speaking during a one- day annual meeting of the business community
in Dodoma last Thursday evening, Minja warned that members of the group
shall not vote for any candidate who will fail to attend the dialogue.
He said any presidential aspirant who fails to participate in the
dialogue shall have approved to them that he or she does not need their
votes following failure to listen to them.
Minja who enjoys support of fellow business members clarified that
the dialogue also will be attended by representatives from other groups
like farmers, pastoralist and workers.
Unlike other dialogues, he said political parties representatives
shall not be allowed to wear part colours or anything that easily
identify them with any party as business members shall wear dark suits.
“We shall attend the dialogue without any formed opinion but shall
come out of it with a decision on who to support, depending on the
debate” he stated but warned those engaging in politics to stop as it is
not possible to do politics and business at the same time.
Officiating the launch of the annual meeting on behalf of the
Regional Commissioner, Dodoma District Commissioner, Dr Jasmin Tiisekwa
urged the business community to shy away from united partisan politics.
She said the group should not be used by politician in effort to
support one candidate for the state house race, saying such a move can
trigger violence in the country.
“It would be surprising to see your group getting involved in dirty
political issues instead of pushing working hard to improve your
welfare” she noted.
The DC said just like any other Tanzanian, they have the
constitutional right to vote for any candidate they think will work for
their benefits and other people without interfering with the existing
peace.
She openly reminded the business people that peace is the most
fundamental factor for development of any nation and without it they
cannot operate businesses.
